NTC, Young Enterprise Centre is organising the SMU-Edge Global Enterprise Challenge 2007.
They are inviting ITE students to take part in the competition. The competition will be held at SMU, Li Ka Shing Library.
The GEC is a 24-hr international challenge in which competing student teams around the world are set a challenge to produce a prototype & business plan for commercially viable product/service set by NASA and the organizers, Career Scotland. The prototype will commonly be technology-based and related to social or environments objectives.
Targeted total no of teams are 27, including 144 students from JCs, ITE, Polys and Int'l High Schools. They will be competing over 24 hrs in GEC to select 1 team to represent S'pore in GEC2007. The winning team in GEC2007 will have the opportunity to visit NASA Space Centre in Houston, Texas.
Students will:
- be organised into teams of mixed ethnicities and skills comprising students from different JCs, Int'l Schools, Polys, ITE
- be linked with mentors from business sector
- have a facilitator (from SMU) to assist
- experience managed risk
- learn to treat failure as an opportunity for success
- use reports as practical documents
- set up business plans that lead to a result
- practice creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation
